Chinese Character Encodings

All XML processors must support UTF-8.
Big5 is used in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Big5 characters have their traditional (complicated) forms.
GB2312 is used in China. GB2313 characters have simplified forms.
GB12345 is used in China. It is the GB2312 characters, but in their traditional equivalents. (Not included in these tests.)
There are also mail-safe versions of these sets: HZ-GB-2123 and the ISO 2022 sets. (Not included in these tests.)

Character sets names for MIME and XML are kept by IANA. The list is found at ftp://ftp.isi.edu/in-notes/iana/assignments/character-sets. MIME types are not case sensitive.
